Being cost effective, powerful, and easy to deploy, Artillery are the mainstay unit of many armies.
Being the indirect-combat counterpart to the Tank, Artillery sacrifice overall mobility for increased damage output. Artillery attacks deal moderate to high damage against all Land and Naval units, with the exception of the Mega Tank. Artillery are also better equipped to handle certain terrain elements that hinder or stop Tanks, being able to fire over Mountains, Rivers and Pipes without penalty. As such, Artillery are highly important units in most army compositions, and are frequently seen units in battles.
Despite their strengths, one should not rely exclusively on Artillery to win battles. Artillery have poor armor, taking high damage from all units save for Infantry, and cannot defend themselves in direct combat. Foregoing other units in favor of Artillery will also leave your army with substandard mobility, allowing opponents to outmaneuver you and have a higher degree of map control. When properly supported and protected by other units, however, well-positioned Artillery are strong area denial units, and are one of the most cost efficient methods of damaging Medium Tanks/Neotanks.
As Artillery benefit highly from movement-slowing terrain for protection, it is advisable to try and engage unit formations containing Artillery in more open areas. Doing so will force an opponent to dedicate more units to blocking units from attacking the Artillery. In doing this, the Artillery's protection will likely be more spread out, making it easier to push through a defensive line and exposing the Artillery to attacks. Trying to push through heavy terrain to attack an Artillery will likely give it time to make attacks or reposition.
While strong, a lone Artillery cannot kill many full HP units on their own, and require other units to finish them off. It is often best to try and pressure Artillery groups into falling back before they have time to establish a defensive wall in front of them. B-Copters are quite effective at combating Artillery, as they can deal damage to shielding units without fear of retaliation from the Artilllery, and are not slowed by most terrain features that would otherwise protect the Artillery. The longer range of Rockets will also prove to be threatening to Artillery, capable of bombarding the Artillery's shielding units an exposing it to attacks.
